In 1958, Malta International Airport was inaugurated in Luqa. There were two floors, a single restaurant, a viewing balcony and we handled approximately 50,000 passengers in one year.
We remain determined to expand our route network, improve our retail and dining service offering and continue to build on the capabilities of our team, as we work towards achieving our vision of offering the best airport experience in Europe. What We Believe in
In line with our vision to offer the best airport experience in Europe, we want our team to provide excellent service to each one of our guests. We are proud to have been awarded the ‘Best Airport in Europe’ accolade three years in a row by the Airport Council International, which bases its results on the ratings given to 346 airports by over 650,000 passengers each year. Our high standards have also landed us a top 10 spot on ACI’s list of airports in the world which host between 5 and 10 million passengers annually.
Integrity is one of the strongest foundations on which Malta International Airport is built. The members of our team live our company values in their relationships with their colleagues, our stakeholders and our guests. Transparency is an intrinsic part of our corporate culture, and is demonstrated through clear and frequent company-wide communication, which instils confidence in the team and further reinforces our spirit of collaboration.
We promote sustainability in all aspects of our operations; environmentally, economically, and socially. In 2018, we revamped our employee wellbeing programme, to include free eye tests, distribution of free fruit, and increase after-work events and workshops. We also collaborated with the Richmond Foundation on a mental health initiative for the team, which offers each employee 12 free counselling sessions per year with one of the Foundation’s practitioners. In 2014, we founded the non-profit Malta Airport Foundation, which directs funds into the tourism industry by investing in the Maltese heritage and environment. The Malta Airport Foundation’s most recent projects include the production of two underwater documentaries centered around the islands of Filfla and Comino, as well as the restoration of Torri Xutu and the Combined Operations Room. At Malta International Airport, we believe that no man is an island. Teamwork is fundamental to our operations, and we collaborate with tourism partners often to improve our guests’ travels to Malta. We also encourage both inter- and intra-departmental collaboration, which encourages our team to learn from each other and think outside the box when faced with a challenging situation, consequently contributing to both the success of the company and their own professional growth.
